WHAT WE’RE PROPOSING

Here’s a really great quote to sum things up:

“One thing my films tend to do is examine a property or quality of a film in a radical way.” “Being radical is a modest form of being extreme. They each examine an axiom of cinema and say, ‘What if?’”

Morgan Fisher

We’re interested in stripping back music & sound, film & moving image to their core and thinking about how they might be refocused today and used to say something about the world we live in now. It’s a way of ignoring all of the baggage that has built up and to start to test for ourselves the implications of the radical concepts at the core of music and film, afresh.

We humbly submit KYTN as an attempt to do this (or a stab at it at least). To set up a festival that recognises that festivals are about spending time together, and to build that festival around artists whose work recognises in some way what the systems of music, film or art might or could be about, or how they could be used.

And we’d like you to be involved. This site sets out the kinds of things we’ll be doing and the kinds of ways you can do them with us.

¹An axiom is an apparently self-evident statement; a kind of starting point or truth, from which other things can be derived.

²The axioms or power of thought that set out how film works, what a performance is, what is musical and which each make a bunch of assumptions (political, ethical, aesthetic) that might be interesting to address ourselves to again, today, here and now, together…

THIS SITE

When we think about going to other events, the things we need convincing of pretty much always come down to:

  • Who is this person/ are these people?
  • What are they proposing?
  • How are they going to do it?
  • Why might I be interested?

So we’ve set this site up to try and give you that information.
