Jarrod will be organising a number of mobile fieldtrips, investigating how to “affect rhythmic intensities…an engagement with complex rhythmicity…to devise events that are continuous and meanwhile can be open to cooperation, interpretation and back-beating...” Topics could include:
Spacetime - A walk to specific pre-determined locations around DCA
Tides - A trip to the shore of either Monifieth, Barry, and/or Carnoustie
Recycling - A trip to, and possible tour of, the Riverside Compost Site
Dialectics - Visits to other concurrently occurring workshops, talks, sound checks, and exhibits at KYTN
Jarrod’s work is quite unlike any idea of rhythm you might normally come across in music. He’s as much interested in rhythm as a tool (for understanding geography, recycling, how cities work, how our daily routines play out, language and so on) as he is interested in it musically. So this is all kinda formal, but applied to everyday life. It’s almost unrecognisable as (traditional) art: which of course all useful art should be!
